127 RSS Feeds That All Designers Should Subscribe To

rssfeeds4designers.jpg

I subscribe to a lot of RSS feeds; so many in fact, that I could spend hours browsing through my feed reader.  I love feeds because they put all my favorite sites into one place.  Below is a list of RSS feeds that I subscribe to and recommend to all my readers.  I am hoping that this list can become a complete and comprehensive list of feeds for design sites so don't hesitate to suggest a site that I may have missed.

Max from DesignShard was kind enough to create an OPML file for you guys to use instead of having to subscribe to each site one-by-one.  You can download the file here.

Setting up a link to an OPML feed with all of these would be super! Then I could just import into a netvibes tab :)

Great list, just added to my bookmarks. Thanks for sharing, some of them are new to me. Only one question... How to keep up in my reader with this much inspiration :)

Marco says:
November 4, 2008 9:30 AM

Wow, that's one AMAZING collection! Subscribed to most of them (not all), but will make sure to check out the ones that I'm "missing".

Too bad I don't see my blog in this list. Oh well, better luck next time ;).

Thanks for sharing!

November 4, 2008 11:09 AM

What a list! I'd have to say I'm only subscribed to about 20 of those. I'm a big fan of David Airey, Just Creative Design and Smashing Magazine.

But hey, aren't you missing www.redswish.co.uk?

(Oh I'm sorry that's a shameful plug...)

Chris Ritke says:
November 4, 2008 11:18 AM

Thanks for all the links! I just started going through them and subscribing and was thinking: hmmmm.... it would be great if I could just import an OPML file of all these. Sometimes I actually prefer just subscribing and then weeding out the ones I don't want after getting a feel for them.

Sure you have reasons why some are not included, so that I understand. Just wanted to mention ImJustCreative as a possible addition?

Totally no problems if you feel it's not appropriate.

Thanks

Adam says:
November 5, 2008 3:49 AM

Curious, why did you have AudioTUTS on the list? Granted, I love that network, but I'm quite certain your list is geared towards the graphic/web persuasion.

I actually just wrote an article here very similar to yours, also outlining great sites to subscribe to. However, I think it is counter-productive to suggest people should subscribe to over 100 feeds because honestly, how many articles can you read in a day? At what point do you have too many feeds in your repository?

I suggested 10, because at some point you find sites recycling the same information, not to mention designers do not have enough time on their hands to peruse hundreds of articles in a day. Even if you were paid to read them, I'm quite certain 121 would be overkill. Nonetheless, what we can take away from this is that we have the CHOICE to pick and choose which of these 121 we want to make our top 10, and that's probably better that you provide more choices, than me simply rationalizing why you should prune it down to 10.

Good list :)

Carl says:
November 5, 2008 6:03 AM

I would be nice to have a top 10 or something, just the sheer amount is going to put me off as wouldnt have the time to check them all...

Grant Friedman says:
November 5, 2008 6:40 AM

I just updated the list again. We're now at 124 feeds. @adam I added websites that interest me. AUDIOTUTS might not be a typical design sites but I've always been interested in music so I follow that feed. There are certainly enough feeds in this list to pick and choose what you subscribe to. I'm just trying to give people options. I agree with many of you that subscribing to 124 feeds can be a little overwhelming. My feed reader is crazy. Once a month I go through it when I do the VECTORTUTS monthly wrap and it takes me a good 4-5 hours to browse through it all but it gives me such a great overview of what's happening in the community.

What a big list, thanks for sharing. Outlining a top 10 as others have said sounds like a great idea - I can't subscribe to 120+ at once - have to fit in some designing inbetween reading it!

It would be really cool if you could include the Liquidicity blog by GoSquared on there - we've got some great icons and reference sheets that should prove really useful to a lot of the folks here.

Cheers! Keep it up.

Jon Chang says:

You should add a good new design blog:

www.burstoid.com

natalia says:
November 5, 2008 11:56 AM

It's too much, what to you want me to do? add a 127 feeds, spend 10 hours per day reading everything? what's the point? I rather add every useful site to del.icio.us and enter when I need something or have time to spent.

Aaron says:
November 5, 2008 12:20 PM

Here from digg...

Thanks for the list, however, there's a lot of crap on these sites (lists of links to other sites, low quality artwork, little or no engaging content or articles..).

In the future, try combing through the sites before adding them to your list or at least write a basic description of each site's general content topic or rate them so we don't have to waste our time sifting out the crap ourselves. Good content is the point of these list collections, right?

This list seems like an attempt to attract traffic by adding as many feeds as possible, crap or not. Unprofessional.

LaurenMarie - Creative Curio says:

david galbraith says:
November 5, 2008 6:54 PM

I've written a script that will generate the opml file:

http://yokiddo.com/opmlcreate.php?urlsubmit=http%3A%2F%2Fcolorburned.com%2F2008%2F11%2F110-rss-feeds-that-all-designe.html

(you can also enter any url that lists a bunch of rss feeds and it will try and build an opml file)

david galbraith says:
November 5, 2008 6:59 PM

i should add that the opml generating script will dynamically detect and add new feeds that are suggested in these comments to the opml file.

It was overwhelming at first and now that I've sorted everything out and organized I don't mind having my newswire tell me I have 2000+ reads of solidness.

Did I mention how much I love them interwebs?! Love em ;)
