I think most of us get the large-follower-number-lust when we start using twitter, but it takes a little time to realise the sites power.
A proper real connection to another tweeter is better than 50 unknowns that will take no notice of your tweets.

Like most things in life it’s quality not quantity that counts.

I personally did not find this article very helpful – is it being sarcastic? I did not find 3 ways to build a large following on twitter, but rather 3 types of tweeters that have large followings on twitter already. Good conclusion, but the title of this article was very misleading.

great post and so true. its no secret that everyone is striving to broaden their fan base and twitter is one good way to do that, but people abusing can be so annoying and eventually will get blocked. its nice to let people on the latest updates of your blog but you need to tweet other good stuff from other blogs as well cause you take but you need to give in return. and people who have their own interest only at heart will be recognized and wont last long .-= Diana Eftaiha´s last blog ..Creative Commons Explained =-.

great article even if I’ve been a little far from twitter lately I thing APIS like twettfed or tweetlate etc, help a lot to be more present on your field.

I totally agree with your conclusion, is not how many followers you have is how interested are they on your tweets and how you interact with them

I totally agree with you, Grant! I do use a twitterfeed to show my followers some news, tutorials, freebies and such but only because I can’t be on Twitter 24/7. It’s basically an intern for Twitter, the feeds do the things while I’m away, preparing new blog content.

While I do want to get more followers, I gues you just have to go with the flow. Some days you get 1 follower, the next day it might be 10-20-50-100…….
