Destroying your designs can sometimes be more satisfying than creating it in the first place. Like you guys, I’m always searching for good Photoshop brushes to use to distress or destroy my artwork. In January, our friends at Lost and Taken created a phenomenal set of grungy film textures. I instantly fell in love with these textures. They are awesome when it comes to adding a bit of grunge to your designs but I also realized the potential for some really great Photoshop brushes. Thankfully, the guys at Lost and Taken agreed to allow me to create a set of 27 High Resolution Grungy Film Photoshop Brushes from those textures and release them to you guys on this site. Enjoy them! They should be a lot of fun to play with.
Recently I re-released a set of popular paint brush style Illustrator brushes on this site. After doing so, it didn’t take long before requests for more brushes in that style started pouring in. I love feedback from my readers so I was happy to produce more brushes in that style. So today, I am releasing a set of 33 paint brush style Illustrator brushes for you guys to use in your designs for free. I hope you enjoy them! And don’t forget, I love feedback so feel free to comment and let me know what you think about this set of brushes.
In Photoshop there are several ways to simulate a painted canvas look in your designs. All methods have their pros and cons but neither are very great at simulating the brush strokes created when an actual paint brush hits the canvas. The best method involves reproducing a canvas and brush texture and applying it to a Photoshop brush. So last week I designed a set of brushes that works very well at simulating this effect and published it on one of my favorite sites; Smashing Magazine.
I love Photoshop brushes, they are very effective tools to help add texture, rough up, or distress your designs. I’ve been looking for a nice set of high resolution Photoshop brushes to help achieve this effect for quite some time; and while there are a ton of really nice Photoshop brush sets out there on other sites, I just wasn’t able to find a set that was exactly what I was looking for. That’s why I went ahead and created a set of 53 High Resolution Photoshop Paint Brushes on my own. These brushes are not only good for roughing up or distressing your designs, but these Photoshop brushes are also great if you just need to reproduce a paint brush effect. So if you are like me and are looking for that perfect set of Photoshop brushes, download this set of brushes and give them a try. I think that you will like them.
One of the best things about vectors graphics is their scalability. If you’ve ever worked with vectors, you know that you can scale them as large or as small as you like. This is the biggest advantage that vector graphics have over raster graphics. The problem with vectors comes with your perspective to the artwork. It doesn’t matter how detailed your vector is, the more you enlarge or zoom into the design the more detail you lose.
I often have this problem when I attempt to distress my vectors. The more I enlarge my vector, the more the distressed elements tend to become distorted. To solve this problem, you either have to find a very detailed and very large distressed vector or you need to find some distressed vectors that are seamless and have the ability to repeat.
This set of vectors is a mix of both. Included in this set you will find 10 seamless destroyed vectors in SVG format that are perfect for creating distressed vectors.
This set of 85 Illustrator paint brushes is a remake of some brushes that I previously released on this site. Since releasing these brushes, I’ve received quite a few emails from people who have had some difficulty opening or downloading them. The reason for this is that they were not contained within a zip file, nor were they saved for legacy versions of Illustrator. So instead of updating the files one by one, I decided to combine all 4 sets into one and save them back as an Illustrator brush file and then re-release them to you guys. Enjoy!
With Valentine’s Day less than a week away, I spent a little time over the weekend putting together a set of 10 Valentine’s Day heart pattern swatches for you guys to use in your designs. This set of 10 Valentine’s Day swatches is available for Illustrator CS and above. I hope that you all have an enjoyable Valentine’s Day and I hope you can find a place in your heart for these patterns in your designs!
I’ve always loved halftone patterns but, I’ve always been stumped when it came to trying to figure out how to create them. For a long while, I experimented with various techniques, some better than others, but in the end, I found that none of them gave me the result that I was looking for. That was until a couple weeks ago when Adelle from Fuel Your Creativity asked me to review Phantasm CS for her website. I jumped at the opportunity and finally found what I was looking for, a plug-in that could create amazing halftone patterns. After a bit of experimentation, I decided to create a set of halftone vectors for you guys to use in your designs. So feel free to download them and use them for free.
I’ve been feeling a bit patriotic lately so I decided to have a bit of fun and release a set of patriotic brushes and swatches with a “stars & stripes” theme. I will be honest with you; this set isn’t all that innovative. There really aren’t very many ways to display star and stripe patterns. That’s why most political and patriotic designs look practically the same; with a few notable exceptions. I released this set because I think it can save you guys a little time the next time you have to create a patriotic design.
Included in this set are 2 files; an Illustrator Swatch file and an Illustrator Brush file, both of which are compatible with Illustrator CS and above. I hope you all enjoy! Go America! YAH!
