My New HP EliteBook 8740w Mobile Workstation

Yesterday, I received an early Christmas present, an EliteBook 8740w Mobile Workstation from HP. I always love new toys, so unboxing them is always a treat for me, especially when that toy is an awesome new laptop computer.

The EliteBook 8740w Mobile Workstation that I received was a really high-end configuration that has an Intel Core i7-740QM (1.73ghz, 6mb L3 Cache), 8GB of memory, a 17? LED-backlight DREAMCOLOR display, NVIDIA Quadro 5000m video card, 500GB HD, Full-sized backlit keyboard, and a 230w external power adapter. Needless to say this is the fastest laptop that I’ve ever used. Even faster than my 15 inch MacBook Pro; not to mention my 27 inch iMac. I’ll provide a full review of this sweet laptop within a few weeks. In the meantime, feel free to watch my unboxing below. I’m like a little kid of Christmas morning, pajamas and all.

Disclosure: This laptop was provided to me for free by HP to review on this blog.

    Hey
I am actually in the market of getting a new laptop and was considering the HP and vaio ranges.. Satelite, samsung, acer and mac I believe have had their time. Vaio comes with built in Blu ray on most of them. Does that card support full 1080p? Including the screen?

Grant, how’s the HP working out? I ordered a 6440w and it arrived DOA. Spent hours on the phone with Customer Service and tech support trying to get it either working or replaced. A week later I was finally told a new one is in the pipeline. Looking forward to getting it rolling. It should rock once I get it set up. I hope all the problems I’ve had aren’t reflective of future dealing with HP. Looking forward to hearing your impressions.

I actually really like mine. It’s been really nice. No problems at all. Great for gaming!

I just bought one for my wife and she absolutely loves it! I can’t help but to steal it whenever she’s not around and play with it. Without a doubt one of the best laptops I’ve ever used!

That’s wonder that you had the opportunity to use and review the HP Elitebook. I’m using an HP desktop and my husband just purchased an HP desktop and loves it. HP continues to make great strides in computers and keeps them affordable. If I need a new laptop, I’ll definitely consider the HP Elitebook.
